Hear the Difference

Anna’s passion for working with children who wear hearing aids or cochlear implants began when her son, George, received the first of his bilateral cochlear implants in 2007. She has navigated George’s therapy and educational needs from infancy through to young adulthood. At first, George had difficulty communicating verbally and was behind other children developmentally. With the consistent guidance of therapists and dedicated carry-over of therapy goals at home, George began to listen and speak more effectively than ever before. Anna celebrated every milestone, no matter how small, along this journey.

Her first-hand appreciation of the challenges you face as a family will enhance your ability to support your child throughout the important and special journey they are about to embark on.

How Speech Pathology Can Help

Building a strong communication foundation is essential to support your child's ongoing development. We are passionate about the importance of early intervention from birth to ensure that your child can achieve their full potential. Early intervention gives your child’s developing brain the best chance to lay down the neural pathways needed for optimal development. Your child’s speech pathology support can assist with:

  • Speech (pronouncing sounds & words)
  • Receptive language (understanding what people say)
  • Expressive language (using words & sentences)
  • Listening skills (hearing & auditory processing)
  • Phonological awareness (early literacy skills)
  • Social skills (relating to others)

Coaching parents to best support their child’s speech, language and listening development

We understand that to achieve the best outcomes for your child, we need to take a family-focused, holistic approach. Parents and families are the natural teachers in a child’s early years, so our therapy focuses on assisting you to support your child’s development in the home environment.

Testimonials

"I am so grateful for Anna's help with my four year old son's speech. She quickly diagnosed the sounds he was struggling with and patiently worked with him to initially make the sounds correctly and then practise to achieve fluency and consistency. Anna connected easily with my son by using games and making the sessions fun."

- Laura

"Anna has been coming out to the Child Care Centre to support a child who has recently had cochlear implants, she has been working not only with the child but with the staff. Anna spent a couple of hours with all the staff after working hours just to give all of us a better understanding of how the implants work and how we can best support the child to reach his full potential."

– Mel

Teletherapy

Anna grew up in the western Darling Downs region. She is passionate about the local community and understands the needs of regional and remote clients. Travelling to Toowoomba can be a challenge, but by using teletherapy services, she can connect with and support children and their families outside of Toowoomba and the region. Teletherapy means that distance is not a barrier to a family’s ability to access a Speech Pathologist with a special interest and extensive experience in hearing loss.

Play & Learn Support Group (PALS)

At Anna Warby Speech Pathology, our Play and Learn Support (PALS) group allows us to bring children with hearing loss and their families together to make friendships and support each other. It provides a safe and comfortable setting for children with hearing loss to interact with each other, boosting their acceptance, confidence and resilience around their hearing technology.

When children see their peers wearing their hearing aids and cochlear implants at PALS, it encourages them to consistently wear their own hearing technology. This results in optimal and consistent access to the full range of sounds on the speech spectrum, which is essential for listening, language and speech development. In addition, PALS group sessions support the development of play and social skills.
